The Claims Layer, published within 72 hours of the event, details the level of damage or loss of functionality to a specific site or series of properties. In cases of large or ongoing events (i.e. hurricanes or conflict), the report will continue to be updated as new information becomes available. If the event is impacted by multiple perils (i.e. wind and flood from hurricane), then a separate layer will be produced to specify damage caused by each peril.

Damage Assessments from the event’s initial Exposure Layer are refined to deliver a 1km² (~0.4 mile²) grid specifying impacted areas that are identified by expert analysis of imagery and an array of other data sources. Where feasible, an assessment of damage and functionality for every individual location affected by the event is provided. The MIS Damage Assessment at 1km, 50m or building level is shown as an overlay separate to other data sources such as imagery.

Within the Claims Layer, users may access all available imagery from satellite, aerial, and ground-based sources. Blue sky and grey sky imagery can be viewed side-by side or overlaid with the slider functionality to directly compare post-event damage to pre-event view.
