If your organisation hosts more than one portfolio on GEO, the Portfolio list in the Your Locations panel gets you to the right one quickly. Each portfolio shows how many of its locations are affected by the event, the list is ordered by relevance rather than alphabetically, and you can favourite the portfolios you use most so they stay at the top.
Choosing a portfolio
Open the Your Locations panel on an event report and select the Portfolio drop-down. The list shows every portfolio you have access to, so what you see may differ from a colleague in another team.

When you open an event, GEO selects the portfolio with the most affected locations for that event, rather than the first portfolio alphabetically. You can switch at any time. Switching portfolio clears any active filters, see [Filtering Your Locations and Policies].
Reading the list
Each row in the list tells you something about that portfolio for the event you have open:
What you see | What it means |
A number | The number of that portfolio's locations affected by the event, for the peril and assessment you currently have selected. |
A zero | Insights have run for that portfolio, but none of its locations fall inside the footprint for the selected peril and assessment. |
No number | Insights have not been run for that portfolio on this event, so there is nothing to count yet. |
A filled star | A portfolio you have favourited. An outlined star means it is not a favourite. |
A combined portfolio icon | A dataset MIS has built by combining several sources, for example .bak, CEDE, EDM, and CSV files, into a single portfolio. |
Because the number follows your Peril and Assessment selections, it changes when you switch between them. Scanning the numbers is the quickest way to see which of your portfolios the event has touched without opening each one.
How the list is ordered
The list is ordered by relevance to the event:
Favourites first. Portfolios you have favourited are listed at the top.
Then by affected locations. Portfolios that are not favourites are ordered by their count, highest first, so the most exposed portfolio sits nearest the top.
Alphabetical as a fallback. If none of your portfolios have affected locations, the list falls back to alphabetical order.
Favouriting portfolios
Favourites are useful if you host many portfolios but regularly work in only a few of them.
Open the Portfolio drop-down in the Your Locations panel.
Select the star beside a portfolio to favourite it. It moves to the top of the list.
Select the star again to remove the favourite.
Your favourites stay in place as you move between events, so you can set them once and they apply to every event you open from then on. They are saved in your browser rather than on your account, which has two consequences:
Clearing your cookies or site data resets your favourites.
Favourites are personal. They do not carry to another browser or device, and your colleagues do not see yours.
Checking the numbers
The badge on the Locations tab in the left sidebar can show a higher number. That badge counts locations across both the Exposure and Claims layers, while the number in the Portfolio list counts only the assessment you have selected. In the example above, the Locations badge shows 22: 21 locations with a Claims assessment, plus one that sits in the Exposure Layer where no Claims layer covers it.
The number beside a portfolio should match what you see on the map. With a portfolio, peril, and assessment selected, the clusters on the map add up to the number shown in the list.
Reviewing exposure across portfolios
A typical way to use the list when an event opens, for a team hosting Demo, Demo 2, and a combined Demo portfolio:
Open the event and the Portfolio drop-down, and scan the numbers. Demo shows 21, Demo 2 shows 4, and the combined portfolio has no number.
Demo is already selected, since it has the most affected locations. Review its clusters on the map.
Select Demo 2 to check its four locations. If you work mainly on that book, favourite it so it is listed first on every event from here on.
The combined portfolio has no number, so Insights have not run for it on this event. Contact [email protected] if you expected to see one.
FAQ
Why does a portfolio have no number next to it?
Insights have not been run for that portfolio on this event. A zero is different: it means Insights have run, but none of that portfolio's locations are affected for the selected peril and assessment.
Why is the number different from the badge on the Locations tab?
The Locations badge counts across the Exposure and Claims layers. The number in the Portfolio list follows the Assessment you have selected, so it can be lower. See the section above on checking the numbers.
Why did my favourites disappear?
Favourites are stored in your browser. Clearing cookies or site data, or switching to a different browser or device, resets them. Favourite the portfolios again and they will stay for future events.
Why does the order of my non-favourite portfolios change between events?
They are ordered by how many locations each event affects, so the order follows the event you have open. Favourites stay at the top regardless.
What is a combined portfolio?
A portfolio MIS has built by combining multiple datasets, for example .bak, CEDE, EDM, and CSV files, into one. It is marked with an icon in the list. See [Sharing Your Data with MIS] for the formats MIS can ingest.
I can't see a portfolio a colleague mentioned.
The list only shows portfolios you have access to. If you think you should have access to another, contact [email protected].
