MIS Investigations is a bespoke service for situations that require more than what GEO provides by default — specific locations, events below MIS response thresholds, or detailed analysis for legal and claims purposes. Where GEO gives you a platform to explore events yourself, an Investigation delivers a tailored report prepared by MIS analysts.

What an Investigation covers

Investigations can be scoped to your exact needs, but typically include:

  • Location-level assessments — A detailed report on one or more specific properties, including whether they were within the event footprint, what MIS assessment they received, and imagery evidence where available.

  • Events below MIS thresholds — If an event was too small to trigger a full GEO response but you need an assessment for a claim or dispute, MIS can investigate and report on it.

  • Imagery sourcing — MIS can source specific imagery for a location or event period, including historical captures, where licensing permits.

  • Expert witness support — MIS analysts can provide documented assessments and supporting evidence for use in litigation or dispute resolution.

  • Post-event claims analysis — Once you receive claims data from an event, MIS can compare it against the event assessment to identify patterns, anomalies, or areas for further review.

When to request an Investigation

Investigations are most commonly used when:

  • A claim is disputed and you need a third-party assessment of whether damage was event-related

  • A specific property's position within an event footprint is unclear or contested

  • You need imagery for a location at a specific date that isn't on GEO

  • An event fell below MIS response thresholds but you have a portfolio exposure in the area

  • You're preparing for arbitration or litigation and need documented evidence

FAQ

How long does an Investigation take?
Timelines vary depending on the scope and complexity. Simple location assessments can often be turned around within a few days. Contact [email protected] for a specific estimate.

Is there a cost for Investigations?
Investigations are typically provided as part of MIS's broader client relationship. Contact your MIS account manager or [email protected] for details.

Can MIS investigate an event that happened several years ago?
Yes. The GEO archive contains all historical events MIS has responded to, and MIS analysts can assess historic data. For events below thresholds or very early events not on GEO, contact the Solutions team to discuss what's available.

What if I need imagery for a location where MIS didn't collect any?
MIS can attempt to source imagery from third-party providers for specific locations and dates. Availability and licensing constraints vary. Include your requirements in your request and the Solutions team will advise.
