Location Insights

How to see which of your portfolio locations fall within an event footprint, on the map and in a table.

Location Insights shows you which locations in your portfolio fall within an event's footprint. Once your exposure data is loaded on GEO, you can open any event and immediately see which of your locations were affected — mapped on screen and listed in a table with their MIS assessment.

What Location Insights shows

For each location in your portfolio that falls within the Exposure or Claims Layer, Location Insights returns:

  • The location's position on the map

  • The MIS assessment for that location (for example, Substantial Damage, Moderate Damage, or Minimal/No Damage)

  • Insured values

  • Full address and coordinates

  • Policy associations

Locations within the Claims Layer get a Claims assessment. Locations that fall only within the Exposure Layer get an Exposure assessment. When both exist for the same location, the Claims assessment takes priority — it's more precise.

Use the Your Locations panel to narrow this down to a specific portfolio, peril, assessment category, or an individual location or policy. See [Filtering Your Locations and Policies].

Exposure columns

Alongside the fields above, the table includes a set of damage-adjusted exposure columns, driven by whichever Damage Factor set is currently applied:

Column

What it shows

Ground-up exposure

The location's insured value after its Damage Factor is applied, before any location-level limit or deductible.

Minimum adjusted exposure

Ground-up exposure with location-level limits and deductibles applied, using the low end of the Damage Factor range.

Maximum adjusted exposure

Same as above, using the high end of the Damage Factor range.

Damage factor

The factor applied to this location based on its Assessment category.

These roll up into the equivalent policy-level columns in Policy Insights once policy terms are applied. See [Damage Factors] for how the ranges themselves are set.

Map view

The map view shows your portfolio locations as clustered points on top of the event layers.

  • At a wide zoom level, nearby locations are grouped into clusters. The cluster shows a count of the locations within it.

  • Zoom in to break clusters apart and see individual location pins.

  • Click any pin to open a detail card with the full assessment, insured values, coordinates, and other fields from your portfolio.

Table view

The table view lists all affected locations as rows, with columns you can customise. Open it from the Location tab in the left sidebar.

The table shows:

  • Account name

  • Location address

  • MIS assessment

  • Insured values

  • Any additional fields from your portfolio

You can sort by any column, filter by assessment category, and reorder or hide columns to suit your workflow. The table also shows which accounts have the highest total exposure within the event footprint — useful for prioritising your response.

Downloading Location Insights

Click Download in the table view to download the full Location Insights output as a CSV. The download includes all columns visible in the table at the time of export, along with the As At Date for the data.

The As At Date

Every Location Insights view shows an As At Date indicating which version of your portfolio was used. If your data was last updated a month ago, the Insights reflect your portfolio as it was at that point. Check the As At Date before sharing outputs — particularly on large events where your portfolio may have changed recently.

To see how these figures have moved since the last time Insights ran for this event, check the Impact Summary on the Summary tab. See [Impact Summary].

FAQ

Location Insights isn't showing any of my locations. What's wrong?
First check that your portfolio data is loaded on GEO — the As At Date will be visible if it is. Then check that you're looking at an event that overlaps with your portfolio geography. If data is loaded but no locations appear, the event footprint may not intersect with any of your locations. Also check whether any filters are active in the Your Locations panel — an overly narrow filter can look identical to a genuine no-overlap result.

Can I see Location Insights for a historic event?
Yes. Location Insights works on any event in the archive. If your portfolio has changed since the event, the Insights will still reflect your current data unless you request a historic re-run. See [Sharing Your Data with MIS] for details on requesting a re-run.

What's the difference between an Exposure assessment and a Claims assessment in the table?
An Exposure assessment is MIS's initial estimate of event impact for that area — published within 24 hours. A Claims assessment is a more detailed, confirmed damage assessment published within 48–72 hours. When both exist for a location, the Claims assessment is used. If you're running Insights early in an event response, some locations may still show Exposure assessments that will be updated as the Claims Layer is published.

How do I customise the columns in the table?
Use the column settings in the table view to show, hide, or reorder fields. The available columns depend on what fields are in your loaded portfolio data.

Does Location Insights cover pre-event forecast data for hurricanes?
Not yet... Location Insights reflects the published Exposure and Claims layers. For portfolio matching against pre-landfall forecasts, see [Pre-Event Layers & Outlook].
