The GEO homepage shows all recent and ongoing events by default. Filtering lets you narrow that list to the events most relevant to you — by date, type, impact, or status.

Opening the filter panel
Click the (+) filter button on the left-hand side at the top of the event list to open the full filter panel. This gives you access to all filter options in one place.
Filter options
Filter | What it does |
Date range | Set a From and To date to search for events within a specific period. Use this to find historic events or narrow down a busy period. |
Event type | Filter by peril — hurricane, flood, wildfire, earthquake, and so on. Select one or multiple types. |
Status | Show only events that have a published report you can access. Show only events that are currently active and being updated. |
Impact level | Filter by MIS's assessment of the severity of the event — low, medium, high. |
Filters work together — for example, you can combine a date range with an event type to find all flood events in a specific year.
Searching by name
The search bar at the top of the events panel accepts event names and locations. Type part of an event name (for example, "Milton" or "Texas") and GEO filters the list in real time.
Using the event scrollbar
The scrollable event list on the left of the homepage shows the most recent events as tiles. Click any tile to jump the map to that event and open its summary card. This is a fast way to browse recent activity without opening the full filter panel.
FAQ
I'm looking for an event from two years ago but can't find it. What should I do?
Set a wide date range in the filter panel covering the period you're looking for, then narrow using event type. If you still can't find it, contact [email protected] with the event name and approximate date.
Can I save a filter combination for next time?
Yes filters remain when you leave the homepage.
Does filtering affect what I see on the map?
Yes. The map updates to show only the events that match your active filters.
